The winner of “least surprising news of the day” has been found, as AMC picked up “The Walking Dead” for a second season today. Not only is it a second season, but it is a 13 episode second season, so even more zombie glory for all to have next year.
This news comes on the heels of the second episode of the series seeing a very small dip, dropping from 5.3 million to 4.7 million viewers in between the first and second episodes. Considering how huge the initial episode’s ratings were, that’s pretty incredible, and a perfect excuse for AMC to renew it.
I do want to note one quote from AMC about the announcement:
“I wish all programming decisions were no brainers like this one,” said Sharon Tal Yguado, SVP Scripted Programming. “‘The Walking Dead’ is a TV masterpiece on so many levels. We want at least 10 seasons, if not more. Kudos to AMC!”
This is awesome because of the “10 seasons” line as well as the perhaps accidental usage of “no brainer.” Oh AMC, you’re such sly devils.
