Are you, like me, excited for the Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods coming next year? Well, you’re in luck because that won’t be the only adaptation of the novel being released in 2017. While Starz and Bryan Fuller are adapting the novel to television, Dark Horse Comics has enlisted P. Craig Russell and Scott Hampton to write and illustrate a comic adaptation, respectively, as announced over at Entertainment Weekly. Covers for the series will be provided by Glenn Fabry and Adam Brown like the cover to the first over there on the left.

There series is slated to be 27 issues in total split across three story arcs of 9 issues each. Each arc looks to correspond the three parts of the novel so I would assume we’re looking for a fairly faithful adaptation which would go along with Dark Horse’s publication of adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s work like “How To Talk To Girls At Parties” by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba and “The Troll Bridge” by Colleen Doran. Those other adaptations were of stellar quality so I am very excited to see how this turns out.

It is also said that P. Craig Russell, along with artists like Walt Simonson, Mark Buckingham and Colleen Doran, will be contributing artwork to the series, possibly in the form of interlude chapters like in the novel. I don’t exactly envy whoever illustrates the Bilquis chapter.

Look for the first issue of “American Gods” by P. Craig Russell and Scott Hampton to drop March 15, 2017.

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
