“American Vampire” — you know it, you love it. Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque telling one of the best vampire-related comics on the market through DC’s Vertigo imprint. With two spin-off minis and a back-up story by Stephen King, it’s easy to get lost in this psuedo-historical book that initially proclaimed “these vampires don’t fucking sparkle.”
Now “American Vampire” is gearing up for a summer ‘event’, so to say, with the upcoming arc ‘the Blacklist,’ which will run concurrently with “Lord of Nightmares”, the spin-off mini illustrated by Dustin Nguyen (although no apparent relation between the two books exists at the moment). Returning to Hollywood, where our story began, this story takes place in the ’50s in the middle of the Red Scare. It’s described as a “massive turning point”, a “game-changer” and the “point of no return,” and knowing Snyder and Albuquerque, this probably means something horrible happening to the main characters of the book. Be warned.
Not only that but the arc is also going to come with five variant covers by various industry talents, starting with Snyder’s artist partner on “Batman,” Greg Capullo, who has illustrated Travis Kidd from the previous arc. Following him are the likes of Dave Johnson, Jock, Francesco Francavilla and Dustin Nguyen, so you know you’re in for a treat.
‘The Blacklist’ and “Lord of Nightmares” start in June.
