As revealed at New York Comic-Con’s Wonder Comics panel today, Amy Reeder is set to write, draw, and color an “Amethyst” series for the DC imprint. The series is set to launch in February 2020, and will feature the Princess of Gemworld in her first solo title since 1986. Amethyst has been an integral part of the Wonder Comics flagship title “Young Justice,” written by imprint curator Brian Micheal Bendis with art by John Timms.

This new series is set to follow, “teenager Amy Winston, a.k.a. Princess Amethyst, as she returns to her magical kingdom to find it in ruins, her subjects vanished, and none in the realm of Gemworld still loyal to her house. To solve this mystery, restore House Amethyst, and save her family, Amy must find new allies and confront dark secrets on a deadly quest to the farthest reaches of Gemworld.”

Reeder said of the book at NYCC, “I really wanted to do fantasy next… I just really wanted to have a place where there’s no rules. It’s been amazing to work on. I believe it comes out in February. A six-issue miniseries. It’s all about her in Gemworld. It’s a lot of worldbuilding… psychedelic fever-dream stuff… they all ride their different animals… They’re going to meet another friend too, who’s of the water.”

Reeder previously worked at DC as the artist on a few issues of the ‘New 52’ “Batwoman” series, as well as “Madame Xanadu” over at Vertigo. She is perhaps best known as a co-creator of Moon Girl over at Marvel Comics for the series “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,” which she co-wrote with Brandon Montclare for the first part of its run.
