With a blockbuster movie on the horizon, Marvel’s tiniest hero is slowly becoming one of its largest. We hate ourselves for that sentence too.

Ahead of the Ant-Man film starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, and following the new ongoing series by Nick Spencer and Ramon Rosanas, Marvel will publish a new prose novel by Jason Starr titled Ant-Man: Natural Enemy. Check out the book’s synopsis below.

“Meet Scott Lang: ex con, single parent and part-time super hero. Settling in to a new city with his teenage daughter, Cassie, can be hard enough. Yet when a criminal from Scott’s past comes gunning for them, his new beginning is in serious jeopardy. But is the killer after Scott — or the secrets of the Ant-Man technology”

The story sounds very similar to Scott Lang’s comic book origin, wherein he is also an ex-con and single parent trying to protect his only child from criminals. That said, Cassie Lang, Scott’s daughter and long-beloved long-dead Young Avenger, was just a small kid in his origin story. Either this is an updated origin story for the 616 to make Scott seem like a more recent Ant-Man, before his daughter became a hero herself, or the film’s new origin.

All that said, the synopsis for the film released so far has implied Hank Pym is Scott Lang’s mentor who charges him to wear the ant-suit which may conflict with the story here. In all likelihood, “Natural Enemy” will be a one-shot non-canon story but one that should help hype up the final movie of the MCU’s Phase 2.

Check out the full press release below and expect a review from Multiversity Comics when the book hits stores around Ant-Man‘s release in June 2015.
