Via IGN, Dark Horse Comics have announced “Apex Legends: Overtime,” the first comic book in Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts’ Titanfall/Apex Legends franchise. A four-issue series, the book was written by Titanfall lead writer Jesse Stern, and illustrated by Neil Edwards (“Assassin’s Creed”), with inks by Keith Champagne (“Stranger Things”), colors by Antonio Fabela (“Skyward”) and lettering by Nate Piekos (“The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys”).

Launched in 2019, Apex Legends is a free-to-play shooter game revolving around the Apex Games, a competitive bloodsport held on a remote cluster of planets at the edges of known space. The comic will see the game’s 16 titular Legends being brought together to “rescue the city from Mad Scientists, brutal assassins, and the sudden and sinister grip of the Syndicate, a corrupt cabal attempting to ‘fix’ arena outcomes in their favor. Will the Legends hold up to their celebrity status and be the heroes Solace needs?”

“Overtime” is the first book based on the game, aside from the art book/lore compendium Apex Legends: Pathfinder’s Quest. It also marks the first comic by Jesse Stern, who currently works as a consulting producer and writer on the CW’s Nancy Drew; his other credits include NCIS, the first two Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games, Battlefield 4, and a story credit on the Charlize Theron film Monster.

“Apex Legends: Overtime” #1 will be released digitally and in print on June 2, 2021.
