There’s been a renaissance in Archie Comics lately, what with series like “Life with Archie” and “Afterlife with Archie” receiving their fair shares of acclaim. After a gritty horror romp and an existential horror that culminated in Archie’s assassination, what’s left for Riverdale?
Predator. Of course. Scheduled for release in Spring 2015, “Archie Meets Predator” will serve as a crossover between the Archie and Dark Horse properties. The 4-issue miniseries will be illustrated by long-time “Archie” artist Fernando Ruiz and written by Alex de Campi. In an interview with USA Today yesterday, de Campi revealed the series will start with the Riverdale Gang’s Costa Rican vacation where a fight between Betty and Veronica attracts a nearby Predator’s attention.
In response to a question regarding what about makes “Archie Meets Predator” compelling to de Campi she says “Because it’s just completely insane. Let’s take this gentle, beloved, classic teen cast and hunt them down and slaughter them one by one. Seriously, if you wouldn’t jump at the chance to write something like this, you need your head examined.” Honestly, I’d think it would be because “Archie vs. Predator” works as a great substitute for “AvP”.
And for you one-liner fans, don’t worry – de Campi is looking for a way to include the “I’m a goddamn sexual tyrannosaur” line into the script. “Sounds like possibly a Reggie line” she says, despite the fact it’s an obvious Hiram Lodge quote.
“Archie Meets Predator” is set for release in spring 2015 and joins “Archie Meets The Punisher” in the halls of crossover comics where children’s icons hang out with murderers. Keep checking Multiversity Comics throughout the day as we update you with all the news from New York Comic-Con.
