Archie Comics have announced a partnership with Webtoon. Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura stated that the publisher’s partnership will see original content being created for the webcomic platform. He described Webtoon and its audience as “perfectly suited for the Archie brand,” explaining, “Archie’s goal is always to be accessible and everywhere, and this is another step in that direction.” He added that creative teams and story details will be shared soon. David Lee, the head of content at Webtoon, said this “will provide an opportunity for Archie fans to experience the vertical scroll format on Webtoon and we appreciate Archie Comics for allowing us to be creative with our pitch.” Release schedules for the Archie Webtoon content has not been announced.
The company also announced a new Riverdale one-shot, “Riverdale Presents: South Side Serpents,” by writer David Barnett, artist Richard Ortiz, colorist Matt Herms, and letterer Jack Morelli. The comic will see FP Jones getting Jughead Jones, Toni Topaz, Fangs Fogarty, and Sweet Pea to join him in attending a mass biker gang rally, where he hopes to recruit new blood to help return the Serpents to their former glory. Barnett stated “It’s really a story about family, and what’s expected of us, and what we think we expect of family. It’s also about how families are not necessarily bound by blood, but can be forged in other crucibles.” “South Side Serpents” is the latest one-shot to be announced that exist alongside Riverdale universe.
