“BPRD” and “The Mask” writer John Arcudi is teaming up with artist Valerio Giangiordano for the new comic “Two Moons” at Image Comics. From The Hollywood Reporter, the horror comic is set during the American Civil War, and follows the titular main character, a young Pawnee man — also known to some as Virgil Morris — who fights on the side of the Union, only to find himself confronted with something more terrifying than the horrors of war.

Arcudi aims to use the genre and setting to look at an underseen section of American history. “It’s a horror/action story first and foremost,” Arcudi said, “but it’s more than that for me and, I hope, for the reader. The complicated history of indigenous peoples during the 19th century was what inspired me to take this story on and we explore some of that through the eyes of a young Pawnee man as he grows to learn more about his place in the world.”

Giangiordano, known best for his Marvel Comics covers, provides the cover for the first issue in addition to the interiors. Gerardo Zaffino provided the first issue’s variant cover.

“Two Moons” #1 hits digital and physical shelves on February 24, 2021. You can find a first look at preview pages from the first issue over at The Hollywood Reporter.
