Arkham Asylum 2 Revealed

Remember that Batman videogame everyone (except me) really really loved? With Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles? Yeah. You remember. At the end of it, it set itself up for a sequel undoubtedly, and wouldn’t you know it – at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, a new “trailer” was revealed. Don’t believe me? Look below!

Hmm. Click behind the cut for thoughts.

Some things of note:

-The Gate of Arkham was moved in front of Gotham City (and this is reinforced by the website url: arkhamhasmoved.com)

-All the graffiti says “LONG LIVE JOKER”

-Joker is on some serious health care, hospital blood pack next to him attached to his arm, and a few of his teeth are missing

-The building the trailer zooms in on is the Iceburg, Penguin’s club

Now, while I was not really a fan of the first game and had my grievances with it. I in general have grievances with Batman. But none the less, it’s a cool looking trailer. From what I am generally hearing around the internets, both Penguin (via the Iceburg) and Two-Face (via the Bat-logo losing the right side of itself) have confirmed appearances in the game, which leads me to believe that the sequel focuses more on a gang war within Gotham moreso than Croc’s grabbing of the Venom at the end of the first game. Huh. Odd move, but still. I’m also hearing rumors that Black Mask is in the game (via the building shown in the trailer with the “SIONIS” sign, Sionis being Black Mask’s last name), probably to reflect his reappearance in the series during Battle for the Cowl.

All that being said, can I get a “too soon” from anyone? I mean, Arkham Asylum JUST came out a few months ago, or am I the only one that remembers? This feels a bit rushed. Granted, everyone loves Batman and cashing in on Batman, but considering the amount of time taken on the first game, you’d think they’d wait a bit more to have some drinks before diving into the sequel? Give it a year or so. Maybe.

Either way, beyond the above trailer and the website, not much is known. There is no release date, no confirmed plot description, no nothing. Just what we all speculate. So let the speculating begin!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
