Marvel has announced a new five-issue limited series “Atlantis Attacks,” from writer Greg Pak and “Hulkverines” and “Sword Master” artist Ario Anindito. The series will debut in January.

The series will follow up on Pak’s recent “Agents of Atlas” miniseries, with the Agents heading into battle against Namor and the forces of Atlantis to protect the people of the Portal City of Pan. The new limited series takes its name from the previous ‘Atlantis Attacks’ event, which sees its 30th anniversary next year.

“We’re all so hugely grateful to the fans who have supported every ‘Agents of Atlas’ book we’ve put out,” said Pak. “And seriously, I’d like to reemphasize how all of this is only happening because you’ve supported these characters and books. It’s a dream come true to be able to tell so many stories featuring so many fun, diverse characters, new and old, and I thank you all for reading, reviewing, and talking up these books!”

Pak also teased the return of the classic “Agents of Atlas” team, which first appeared in 2006. The original line-up was last seen in a short-lived ongoing series in 2010.

Since their debut as part of the recent “War of the Realms” crossover, this current incarnation of the Agents of Atlas has spun off multiple new ongoing and limited series, including the aforementioned “Agents of Atlas” miniseries and solo series for new characters Wave, Aero, and Sword Master.

The original “Atlantis Attacks” event was published in 1989 and ran through most of the annuals published during that summer. It featured most of Marvel’s major heroes facing off against the Lemurians.
