Avengers: Infinity War was moved up for an April 27 release date, so it was about time there was a new trailer, and here it is:
Gamora, Thanos’s own adopted daughter, gives the trailer’s opening narration, reminding the viewers who her father is while introducing him to Tony Stark at the Sanctum Sanctorum. It’s a moment that should please fans of Jim Starlin, George Pérez and Ron Lim’s “The Infinity Gauntlet,” and as the trailer further demonstrates, we can expect a lot more of the backstory to Thanos and his children.
We see the three major storylines; Stark, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Drax and Gamora confront Thanos’s forces in New York; Steve Rogers and Black Widow’s Secret Avengers reunite with Black Panther’s army to protect Vision in Wakanda; and Thor, Rocket and Teen Groot on their own cosmic quest. It’s certainly not going to be an easy adventure, with Thor and Doctor Strange looking like they’re in for a lot of pain, though Rogers looks to be giving it his all against the Mad Titan himself. The trailer manages to concludes on a lighter note, with Peter Parker under the mistaken impression Doctor Strange’s name is fake. A taste of what’s to come in their sequels, perhaps?
Infinity War will unite almost every Marvel Cinematic Universe hero, with one notable exception: Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, whom the Russos confirmed they shot scenes with, but were cut for time. Her film debut will come in her own solo film, Captain Marvel, due out March 8, 2019, two months before she joins the fray in Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019. Until then, there should be plenty for Marvel fans to absorb this summer.
