Via a bilingual exclusive at Un Cómic Más, AWA Studios have announced “Absolution,” a sci-fi action comic by writer Peter Milligan, and artist Mike Deodato Jr. Set in the near future, the book follows Nina Ryan, a hired killer, who now “has a month to prove that she can change and make up for her crimes by killing the world’s worst criminals — all live-streamed for the world to see. Freedom is the prize while failure will set off the bombs implanted in her brain.”
“Peter Milligan and Mike Deodato Jr. are two of the best in the field and they play to each other’s strengths,” said AWA CCO Axel Alonso. “Peter writes great action set pieces that give artists a chance to showcase their style. Mike draws inner emotion, a hallmark of Peter’s work, into the faces and body language of his characters.”
The press release describes the series as being inspired by YouTube, Twitch, Facebook Live, and other modern examples of “our voyeuristic obsession with watching others’ lives unfold.” Milligan commented, “Some stories grab you and demand to be told. The idea of a brutally modern way to expiate yourself of your ‘sins’ had never seemed more relevant. And with its amazing team, AWA was the only place I wanted this story to be.”
“Absolution” #1 (of 5) will be released on July 6, with a main cover with Deodato, and a variant by Frank Cho.
