Indie publisher A Wave Blue World have announced a new publishing initiative for two new titles – “Mezo” and “Dead Legends” – starting in October. The Premier #1 Program will see the first issues of both titles released in print, after which point readers can choose to continue the series in digital, biweekly installments, or with a complete print edition released two months later.

The first title under the program, “Mezo,” is a “daring Mesoamerican-inspired Game of Thrones-type epic” created by AWBW president and co-publisher Tyler Chin-Tanner with storyboard artist Josh Zingerman (who conceived the concept in 2016), artist Val Rodrigues (“Deep Roots”), colorist Doug Garbark (“WWE”) and letterer Thomas Mauer (“Crude”). It follows the young Kyma, who must unite the scattered tribes of her homeland against the invading Tzalekuhl Empire, and the first issue hits comic book stores on October 2.

“Dead Legends,” which is described as Kill Bill meets Enter the Dragon, sees a martial arts tournament “become overtaken by personal grudges and unfinished business.” Written by James Maddox (“Clown,” “The Dead”) with art by Gavin Smith (“The Accelerators”), and letterer Ryan Ferrier (“Rat Queens”), the first issue comes out on October 9. The trade paperbacks of both comics will presumably be released in December.

Tyler Chin-Tanner declared in a statement at The Hollywood Reporter, “Two of the challenges that prevent fans from reading indie comics are the difficulty in finding all the issues and waiting long periods of time for them to come out. We’ve addressed both of those problems by having the full series completed in advance and ready to deliver in whatever format the reader prefers.”
