Writer Donny Cates (“God Country,” “Buzzkill,” “Interceptor”) is teaming up with artist Garry Brown (“The Massive,” “The Revisionist,” “Black Road”) and publisher AfterShock Comics on a new series titled “Baby Teeth.” It tells the story of Sadie Ritter, a sixteen year old who is nine months pregnant with the Antichrist. The press materials describe it as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer combined with Rosemary’s Baby.” The book is expected to drop in June.

“Babyteeth is so much fun to write,” said Cates. “After spending much of my career writing gruff anguished heroes and dusty old men, I really wanted to sink my teeth into something that had a lot of heart and a lot of fun to it. That being said, I suppose it’s telling that my idea of fun is a young girl giving birth to the antichrist. But honestly, Sadie Ritter is one of my hands down favorite people in the whole world. I love her dearly and I know you will too. Her son can be a handful, though…”

This isn’t Cates first time tapping into the horror genre (or his last, with his upcoming Image vampire comic with Lisandro Estherren, “Redneck”) but it seems to be his first with some coming-of-age elements coming into play.

Mike Marts, editor-in-chief of AfterShock Comics, and his team have been on a roll since their inception in 2015, releasing titles with creative teams that are perfect mixture of industry veterans and up-and-coming creators. Their roster, thus far, have included names like Marguerite Bennett, Tony Harris, Brian Azzarello, Frank Barbiere, Phil Hester, and more. Most recently, it was announced that John Layman and Sam Kieth would be teaming up for “Eleanor and the Egret” at the publisher.

NEW SERIES!

Sadie Ritter is sixteen years old, nine months pregnant, and scared out of sweet nerdy mind. Having a baby that young is tough. But with the support of her loving family behind her, everything should be okay. OH YEAH, and also her baby is the antichrist and it’s going to break open the barriers between the earthly and demonic planes and unleash eternal suffering to all of humankind. Other than that, though…should be fine.

This exciting new series from AfterShock is like Buffy the Vampire Slayer combined with Rosemary’s Baby.

DONNY CATES QUOTE – “Babyteeth is so much fun to write. And might I just say, that doing the book with AfterShock has been amazing. Everyone at the company has been fired up and 100% onboard since I turned the first pitch in. Their excitement is infectious and makes the whole creative team really step their game up. I tend to think fans can tell when a creative team is having fun on a book. And if even a tenth of Aftershocks enthusiasm bleeds through on this one, you are all going to have a fucking blast reading Babyteeth.”
