DC Comics have announced ‘Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War,’ an eight-part crossover between both characters’ titles starting in August. Written by Chip Zdarsky and Tini Howard, the story will see the Dark Knight come to blows with his former fiancée over a renewed effort to combat crime in Gotham.

The crossover will consist of September and October’s issues of “Batman” and “Catwoman” (drawn respectively by Jorge Jimenez and Nico Leon), and two one-shots bookending the event (rendered by Mike Hawthorne and Adriano Di Benedetto), plus a two-part “Red Hood” series by writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Nikola Čižmešija.

“Batman” writer Chip Zdarsky says, “From the moment Tini and I started working on these titles, we realized we had a huge opportunity to build toward something that would shake up the power structure of Gotham City. ‘The Gotham War’ is just that: relationships explode, relationships are formed, and it all leads to massive changes! Being able to take these kinds of big swings together has been extremely exciting.”

“Catwoman” scribe Tini Howard adds, “Comics thrive on team-ups. Whether it’s a team of creators or a heroic partnership, all of my favorite stories are about two strong personalities and the space between them. On the page, we’ve got one of comics’ greatest love stories: the world’s greatest detective and the world’s greatest criminal. And they both love Gotham City. But the course of true love never did run smooth.”

‘The Gotham War’ will kick off on August 29 with “Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War – Battle Lines” #1. The subsequent checklist should resemble:

– “Batman” #137 (September 5)
– “Catwoman” #57 (September 19)
– “Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Red Hood” #1 (September 26)
– “Batman” #138 (October TBD)
– “Catwoman” #58 (October TBD)
– “Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Red Hood” #2 (October TBD)
– “Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War – Scorched Earth” #1 (October 31)
