Some of you may have noticed that in last week’s review of Batman Inc, I noted that Batman Inc. was getting a weird treatment from DC. The cover for #3 was supposed to be the “January Iconic” cover, but delays pushed the book back two months and had the cover replaced with the original cover to issue #5. Beyond that I also noted in the review that it didn’t look like the issues would sync up with their solicits anymore since this issue ended with a “To Be Continued”, making the proposed Batwoman team-up back in Gotham for #4 seem… well, unlikely.
DC has sort of responded to this, but not in the way you’re thinking. No solicits have been changed, but DC released on the Source blog a brand new cover to issue #5 (pictured above), which apparently teams Batman up with Azrael (whose series has recently been cancelled) the Hood, George Cross. The odd thing, of course, is if you look at DC’s solicits, which has the following for issue #5:
Batman’s Argentinean adventure concludes as The Dark Knight and Gaucho fight to the death to save the lives of countless innocents. Meanwhile, England’s other Batman, The Hood, stumbles across a monstrous conspiracy — can Batman and his international allies stop a plot that threatens to transform the whole world?
So if you go by solicits, it looks like later this month, Batman will randomly go back to Gotham to hang with Batwoman, then shoot back down to Argentina to finish his adventure with Gaucho in April before heading out West in May. OR you can presume based on covers that Batman will finish his adventure with Gaucho, then go hang out with Azrael The Hood instead of Batwoman. It’s possible (even probable, considering the solicited Batwoman issue just might be a prologue to her ongoing series).
Only time will tell, I suppose. Don’t you just love delays?
