This news will hit each reader of it individually, so we’ll try to abstain from as much commentary as possible. The attached choice of images are about as far as we’ll go.
This morning, we learned that what was originally supposed to be a 12-issue series entitled Batman: Leviathan is now instead going to be a new ongoing that serves as volume 2 of Batman Incorporated. While this alone was certainly an interesting development, there has been a single question percolating in every Morrison fanboy’s mind since we received the Batman: Leviathan Strikes one-shot last month, which took place notably before Flashpoint. However, in an exclusive interview with Comic Book Resources, Batman group editor Mike Marts confirmed that the new volume of Batman Incorporated does indeed take place after the universe altering events of Flashpoint. As Marts elaborates,
You know, my belief is, readers who pick up the new series will be able to move into it and won’t feel weighed down by past continuity. It will be a good chance to pick up a new book and to read new continuity. And people who have been reading everything over the past few years will also be satisfied and see that elements of what Grant had set up previously will be incorporated, so to speak, into the new title.
How much of this “new reader friendly” aspect is true is obviously to be determined, but it does raise some questions about the interior content and how many things may be possibly lost. However, DC has been pretty good about letting Morrison write the book as he sees fit, so despite having to work in a brand new universe, one would certainly expect the content to still hold up.
Marts also notes that things that occur in Batman Incorporated will be felt throughout the new universe, but the most important thing to note here is that the things Morrison has been planning since the beginning of his run are remaining intact and will indeed see conclusion.
Either way, look for Batman Incorporated v2 #1 in May, and prepare yourself now for impending awesome.
