Via IGN, DC have announced “Batman: Off-World,” a six-issue series by writer Jason Aaron with artist Doug Mahnke, and inker Jamie Mendoza. The book will follow a young Bruce Wayne as he heads into space for the first time, after encountering an alien menace on the streets of Gotham. “A universe of possible alien threats leads Batman to make a daring decision — to venture alone into the far reaches of the cosmos for the very first time, where the Dark Knight will face the fight of his life!”
While Aaron has written books for DC’s Vertigo imprint like “Scalped,” the comic marks only his second DC Universe story, following 2008’s one-shot “Joker’s Asylum: Penguin.” During the intervening years, he has primarily explored Marvel’s superheroes, including Wolverine and the X-Men, Thor, Doctor Strange, and the Avengers, whom he wrapped up a five-year run on earlier this year.
“I fell in love with comics because of DC,” Aaron says. “The first books my young, beardless self ever plucked from a grocery store spinner rack were the ‘New Teen Titans’ and ‘World’s Finest’ and ‘Batman.’ Books that opened the door to a universe of stories that would quite literally change the course of my life. So it is with great honor and excitement that at long last I get to make my proper debut as a DC writer, with a Batman story that takes a young Dark Knight on his own first journey into the far, wondrous reaches of the DC cosmos.”
“Batman: Off-World” #1 will be released on November 21, 2023, with the standard version retailing for $3.99, and a cardstock variant cover version costing $4.99.
