During this Friday’s DC San Diego Comic-Con panel Jim Lee & Friends, Todd McFarlane appeared to announce he will be writing a new “Batman/Spawn” one-shot, featuring art by Greg Capullo. Plot details were not given for the 48-page special, but the comic will be released on December 13.
The book will mark the third crossover between the Dark Knight and McFarlane’s undead anti-hero, following 1994’s twin one-shots “Spawn/Batman,” and “Batman/Spawn: War Devil.” The former comic, published by Image, was penned by Frank Miller with McFarlane on art, while the latter, at DC, was written by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon and the late Alan Grant, and drawn by Klaus Janson. “Batman/Spawn: War Devil” will be re-released before the new crossover on November 15.
This collaboration between McFarlane and Capullo originally began life in 2006 as “Spawn/Batman: Inner Demons.” McFarlane shared the pictured artwork while reminiscing about the project in 2017, noting that, while the comic didn’t materialize, Capullo still went on to draw “Batman” on Scott Snyder’s acclaimed ‘New 52’ run from 2011 to 2016.
In further DC news, the publisher released their October solicitations, featuring a number of titles that were only announced today at Comic-Con, including a Gotham Knights prequel series, the previously announced relaunch of “Batman Incorporated,” and new issue #1s for the Joker, Static, Punchline, and Renee Montoya. We’ll share our full thoughts on these in our Soliciting Multiversity column, going live later this month.
