While we haven’t done a review of it (yet), everybody’s favorite Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) teamed up with Mark Gattis (League of Gentlemen, two episodes of Doctor Who) to do a modern update of the classic character Sherlock Holmes. With a dynamite 3-episode first series, we have reports that the show will in fact come back for a second series. This is really no surprise, considering a) the show has been fantastic and b) the finale had around 8 million viewers overseas alone.
The show stars Benedict Cumberbatch (who recently won the role of Jack the Rat in the Multiversity Casting of Joe the Barbarian) and Martin Freeman (the original “Jim” from the original Office) as Sherlock and Watson in an updated yet still highly faithful version of Doyle’s character.
Of course, the question is really when now, as Moffat has already confirmed his major duties lie with the ongoing adventures of the Doctor. However, that does leave Gatiss free to continue on (hopefully). I would imagine that Gatiss could take showrunner responsibilities with Moffat putting in time when he can. At least, this is my finger’s crossed scenario.
The show will air here in the states in October, and the show will be on DVD in the UK by the end of August. Keep your eyes peeled for a first series review from yours truly very soon.
