Beasts of Burden Set To Return Sometime In 2013

Most of you are probably familiar with the Dorkin/Thompson title, but for those who aren’t “Beasts of Burden” was a series published by Dark Horse and created by the aforementioned featuring a group of dogs (and a cat!) solving supernatural mysteries in their neighborhood. It started out as shorts in Dark Horse anthology, graduated to a four-issue mini and has since seen two one-shots, one teaming them up with Hellboy and another collecting some Dark Horse Presents material.

Well, it looks like the Beasts are back for more next year, as it was apparently sneak announced at NYCC to (surprisingly) little fanfare. As written on Dorkin’s blog (and originally spied by the fine folks at Robot 6):

Although we didn’t make a formal announcement, during the Dark Horse Comics horror panel we mentioned that Jill Thompson and I are working on a second Beasts of Burden mini-series. It’ll be four issues, two of which I’ve written (one of which I co-wrote with Sarah). When we’re finally done with it all the second series will cap a second hardcover collection, along with the Hellboy crossover and the Neighborhood Watch stories from Dark Horse Presents. As far as a schedule for the new series, I guess “sometime in 2013” is about all I can cough up. Anyway, at least it’s underway, finally, and I’m glad we can start talking about it. Although I guess that’s all there is to say right now.

No more needs to be said. We’re excited as is.

Look for the series next year and the “Neighborhood Watch” one-shot should still be in all finer comic shops, as well as the first hardcover collection.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
