Bennett and Di Meo Take Over “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers” After ‘Shattered Grid’

BOOM! Studios have announced its current “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers” event, ‘Shattered Grid,’ will claim a couple more victims than previously expected. Current “Rangers” writer Kyle Higgins and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo are stepping off the series with ‘Shattered Grid”s conclusion, handing their Morphers and Power Coins over to writer Marguerite Bennett (“Batwoman,” “DC Bombshells”) and artist Simone Di Meo.

As ComicBook.com revealed, it’s not just “Mighty Morphin'”‘s creative team that’s receiving a shake-up. As of September’s issue 31, “Mighty Morphin'” will follow an entirely different team of Rangers thrown together from throughout Power Rangers history, tasked with a mission that takes them ‘Beyond the Grid.’

“There’s a very specific story reason why [the book now features] these Rangers, and you’ll find out that they’re more than up to the task in Marguerite’s story,” said BOOM! senior editor Dafna Pleban, in the ComicBook.com announcement.

Bennett’s new team of Rangers consists of In Space‘s Red Ranger, Andros, Zeo‘s Yellow Ranger, Tanya, Lost Galaxy‘s Magna Defender, Ninja Storm‘s Green Ranger, Cam, a mysterious Dino Charge-themed Blue Ranger, and perhaps most surprisingly, the Ranger Slayer from BOOM!’s own “Go Go Power Rangers” series.

“I will say that … “Go Go” #11 will reveal a lot of information,” said “Go Go” writer Ryan Parrott. “You’ll get key information as to understanding who the Ranger Slayer is, her relationship with Drakkon … This is the beginning of her story, not the end.”

For her part, Bennett can’t wait to get started with the series, and while she’s playing many of her cards close to the vest for now, her enthusiasm for the franchise shines through.

“Even though I can’t tell you what’s coming, I’m really hoping to keep the momentum, vigor, and emotion of everything that Kyle has set up on this careening course into this whole new world of possibilities,” said Bennett. “It’s such a cliché and so childish but so sincere, I can’t believe that I get to write for Power Rangers.”

Higgins won’t be stepping away from the “Power Rangers” franchise entirely, as his new original graphic novel starring an older Tommy Oliver, titled “Saban’s Power Rangers: Soul of The Dragon,” is still set to release this December. But as he hands over the reins of the Rangers’ main series, Higgins seems excited to see what Bennett will add to the teenagers-with-attitude’s world.

“Everything we’re doing in the book and have built to through ‘Shattered Grid’ has been about redefining Power Rangers, and that’s why I’m so excited. I know what Marguerite’s planning and it’s epic, it’s beyond epic,” said Higgins. “She is coming in and is going to continue what we’ve been trying to do for the last couple years, which is being additive to the mythology and the legacy of Power Rangers.”
