Via The Beat. America’s first female detective will have her story told in “Better Angels: A Kate Warne Adventure.” The original graphic novel, written by Jeff Jensen with art by George Schall, will be released through BOOM! Studios imprint Archaia. The story will follow the true life story of Pinkerton agent Kate Warne, as she uncovers a plot to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln in 1861.

“When I first stumbled upon the story of America’s first female professional detective and her greatest claim to fame, I wanted to know the answer to a burning question,” Jensen says about the OGN. “How did a woman from a small town in upstate New York in the mid-1800s grow up and get THAT job?”

While Jensen is best known for his work on HBO’s Watchmen, he is no stranger to the true crime genre: he wrote the 2011 graphic novel “Green River Killer: A True Detective Story” from Dark Horse Comics, dramatizing the arrest of Washington-state serial killer Gary Ridgway. Jensen’s father, Det. Tom Jensen, was one of the detectives tracking Ridgway, and served as the OGN’s primary protagonist.

He’s joined by Barcelona-based artist George Schall. Schall’s previous works include 2019 family drama “Chasing Echoes” (written by Dan Goldman), and this May’s “Made in Korea” (written by Jeremy Holt). “I can’t wait for people to dive into Kate’s world of conspiracies and intrigue and wholesome companionship!” Schall said of the project. “I’m completely enamored by Jeff’s character work in this book: it’s fun, deep, emotional, thoughtful, daring! I’m sure everyone will love it too.”

“Better Angels: A Kate Warne Adventure” hits shelves in October 2021. Previews can be found on The Beat,
