Yesterday we were very curious as to what the BKV/Martin collaboration was, as it had been something that was in talks since late 2011. Today the answer is here: “The Private Eye,” a new digital comic that you can read for whatever price you like.

Published on Panel Syndicate, a new digital publishing site from Vaughan and Martin, “The Private Eye” #1 is being released as a DRM-free comic where the users can pay whatever price they think is worth the work. Featuring color work by Muntsa Vicente, “Private Eye” is a serialized sci-fi detective story set in a future where “where privacy is considered a sacred right and everyone has a secret identity.” Coming in at 32-pages, it’s the first in a planned ten-part series. It’s also important to note that there are no plans for “Private Eye” to ever be released in print, according to the FAQ, but that the model of publishing they’re attempting will only be sustainable if everyone interested in the book doesn’t just grab it for free. (An obvious sentiment, I know, but worth noting when something as awesome as this is handed up for free.)

Here are three preview pages for the book:

You can check it out now at Panel Syndicate.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
