Black Panther Film In The Works

It looks like Marvel Studios is going to do whatever they can to bring Black Panther to us on the big screen!

Having recently been unable to air their TV show on BET due to legal complications, it had looked like Marvel might have to shelve the Black Panther property for a tad. However, never one to take no for an answer, Marvel is now looking to make their own Black Panther film in-house at Marvel Studios as Mark Bailey, story editor and writer for the documentary Pandemic: Facing AIDS and Ghost of Abu Ghraib and an adaptation of The Last of the Tribe: The Epic Quest to Save a Lone Man in the Amazon. It looks like with the Black Panther, Marvel wants to infuse a heavy dose of realism into the story rather than the eccentric largescale worlds of the Avengers, which is completely understandable and a rather interesting move.

The Black Panther movie move is actually quite understandable if you look at some recent things from Marvel. Not only did they just launch a brand new Black Panther book, but if you remember, with Captain America’s film coming out soon, fellow Cap aficionados may remember that his shield is made from the fictional Marvel element vibranium. And where exactly is the largest repository of vibranium in the world? Wakanda. Careful eyes will remember that there was an easter egg in Iron Man 2 that showed Wakanda on the map, which is where T’Challa hails from, so the expansion of the film-verse to include the Black Panther makes total sense. This’ll also allow Black Panther to join the Avengers for any upcoming sequel films, and considering that Black Panther has been a card carrying member of the Avengers in the past (and is currently one of the main characters on Marvel’s animated show, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes), all signs point to a big breakout from the Black Panther soon.

All we can hope is that this will turn out better than the “Indiana Jones-style” Wesley Snipes film from Columbia Pictures, but with the Panther safely at home in the hands of Marvel Studios, things are looking pretty good.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
