Audiences got their first glimpse at Marvel’s Phase Four this morning with the release of the Black Widow teaser trailer. Set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Natasha Romanoff is on the run, investigating her own sordid past and being hunted by masked assassins. There’s spies abound and intrigue aplenty.

The trailer starts with a fairly cohesive recap of what we know about Black Widow so far using footage from past films (continuing a trend that Endgame started). We see that William Hurt’s Thaddeus Ross is returning, and both Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh appear as Melina Vostokoff and Yelena Bolova (Iron Maiden and Black Widow II), respectively. Both seem to have some kind of Red Room training, which we get a glimpse of later in the trailer. Alongside David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov a.k.a Red Guardian, they seem to form Black Widow’s own miniature Avengers team, Russia’s mightiest heroes.

Natasha Romanoff seems to have two new costumes for the film, the black, armored, Wasp-esque suit we see in the poster as well as the film’s convoy sequence, and a white suit that pops up during one action sequence and in the scene of her, Alexei, Melina and Yelena sitting together.

We get a few shots of masked villain Taskmaster throughout the trailer, one of which has him using a bow and arrow, a motif synonymous with Black Widow’s partner Hawkeye. Finally, the trailer ends on a shot of Black Widow skydiving away from armed assailants all while avoiding falling rubble.

Black Widow is set to release on May 1, 2020, in the meantime, check out the teaser poster below:
