It’s been rumored to be on the chopping block for a good while now, but it’s now official: today’s solicits revealed that W. Haden Blackman and Michael Del Mundo’s “Elektra” has been canceled with February’s eleventh and final issue. Teasing the “final round” between Elektra and Bullseye (for the 55th time…I mean haven’t they each killed each other at least once?), this issue will be the culmination of everything the pair has been building in their eleven issue run.

The book, which is yet another Marvel title to end with a woman as the lead, has been a bit of a mixed bag, but it has been an innovative and interesting one, as Del Mundo’s art and Blackman’s script paired to turn a comic into more of a ultra violent story book. It’s a fascinating juxtaposition, but an often beautiful one that pushed the boundaries of the way comic narratives are delivered, thanks in particular to Del Mundo’s art.

I’m sure this won’t be the last we see of Elektra, even if she is killed in this issue, but it probably will be the last time we see a series from her for a while (at least until they release the Daredevil Netflix series). For W. Haden Blackman and Michael Del Mundo, both are enormously talented creators, and I hope we see them on something else soon.

You might hear more about this soon in Soliciting Multiversity, which will either be later this week or next week.
