'Black: The Mourning After' #1

Evan Dorkin, Veronica Fish and Andy Fish’s “Blackwood” is getting a sequel series next year with “Blackwood: The Mourning After.” The Dark Horse comic series is set in the eponymous school of the occult, and will deal with the fallout of the major character deaths of the first series, while the students are slowly hunted down by a traitor looking to “bury the rest of the school.”

Series writer Evan Dorkin was happy to be returning to the setting since he is “so personally invested in these characters, the school as an entity itself and all the weird stuff surrounding it – there is so much story!” He added that he loves “seeing how Veronica and Andy bring it all to life.” The Fishes stated that “Evan is so great about taking a drawing I did or an idea we have and running with it, incorporating it where it works into the story — it’s a very rewarding collaboration.”

Where the original series was a mix between gothic horror and high school drama, “Blackwood: The Mourning After” looks to inject a shot of murder-mystery into the series. Evan Dorkin is known for his prior work on “Beasts of Burden” and “Dork!,” while Veronica and Andy Fish have worked on “Spider-Woman” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” respectively.

“Blackwood: The Mourning After” #1 makes its way onto shelves on February 12th 2020.
