Z2 Comics have announced “Blondie: Against The Odds,” a graphic novel which will be written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti (“Harley Quinn”), illustrated by John McCrea (“The Boys”), and overseen by the band’s lead vocalist Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein.

The graphic novel is based on the band’s oral history, and will chronicle their success in the late ’70s. It will also feature artistic interpretations of ten songs from the band’s catalogue to punctuate it. Harry and Stein’s involvement with the story has been significant so far, with Palmiotti saying that “they are looking over everything we are writing, fact-checking, and adding some perspective that only they can provide,” which gives the graphic novel a “certain edge and feel like no other.”

Palmiotti and Conner are both huge fans of the band: Palmiotti “spent many a late night checking out the music scene when punk and New Wave were becoming a thing in the late seventies,” and has seen the band “perform a number of times,” while Conner stated “the whole suburban girl who moves to the city to make it big (like Debbie), and mix it up with some very cool people pretty much inspired my life.”

Blondie have released twelve albums since their self-titled debut in 1976: their best known songs include “Heart of Glass,” “Call Me,” and “Rapture.”

“Blondie: Against The Odds” is scheduled for release in Fall 2021 with multiple limited editions.
