Sony Pictures have released the first trailer for Bloodshot, starring Vin Diesel as the Valiant Comics superhero of the same name:
The spoilery trailer lifts the lid on the story of murdered Marine Ray Garrison (Diesel), who is resurrected by a team of scientists – led by Guy Pearce’s Dr. Emil Harting – with nanotechnology, which gifts him with superstrength and the power to instantly recover from any injury. Garrison soon remembers Axe (Toby Kebbell), the man who murdered him and his wife, and sets off to pursue revenge, only to be deactivated by his superiors once he has completed his mission – as it turns out, they have been erasing and altering his memories, manipulating him into assassinating different targets.
The trailer also introduces Eiza González as Harting’s colleague, Sam Heughan as the cybernetic villain Cpl. Harlan ‘So Long’ Shifflet, and Lamorne Morris as Wilfred Wigans, who is seemingly Garrison’s only ally, letting him in on what’s going on. While the footage gives us a good look at Bloodshot’s powers, it does not show the character’s final look from the comics, with his ghostly skin and trademark red chest blot being hinted at with a glowing rib cage.
Created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton, and directed by Dave Wilson (whose directorial debut was Love, Death & Robots) Bloodshot will be released in theaters in the United States on February 21, 2020.
