BOOM! Studios have announced “Grim,” a new series by writer Stephanie Phillips, artist Flaviano, colorist Rico Renzi, and letterer Tom Napolitano. “Grim” will follow the recently-deceased Jessica Harrow in the afterlife, where she has found herself part of a group of Reapers, individuals who must ferry “countless souls to their final destination.”
What distinguishes Jessica from the other Reapers, though, is that she cannot remember her own death. Over the course of the series, Jessica will seek out the truth behind her fate, and uncover the whereabouts of the true Grim Reaper in the process.
Phillips described the series as “dark and brooding and fixated on death…” but insisted that it is “one of the most fun series I’ve ever written.” She added that “with demons, reapers, departed souls, and Flaviano’s artwork, you’ll be dying to read more!” Flaviano commended Phillips for doing an “amazing job setting the groundwork for a character that you can’t help but love.”
“Grim” #1 is scheduled for release in comic shops and on digital platforms in May. Artists Jenny Frison, Mike Del Mundo, and Dave Johnson have all been confirmed to be contributing variant covers for the series, and you can check out a host of preview pages and Frison’s variant cover over at The Beat, as well as Jessica’s character design here.
