After their teasing and announcing of a “Big Trouble in Little China” comic, it appears BOOM! is going to continuing playing in the Carpenter-verse (or is that the Russell-verse?) with a new book starring my personal favorite iteration of Kurt Russell, Snake Plissken.
This is not the first time that Snake would appear in a comic, having appeared in a Marvel book (“The Adventures of Snake Plissken”, bridging the gap between both films) and then later in a mini published by CrossGen that took place right after New York. It’s not like there isn’t already ample room to play with the character, though; not only could his origins be explored, for example, but there has long been a rumor of a third Escape From… film, in which Snake would have to escape from Earth and go into space. It was never filmed due to the failure of Escape from LA, but the prospect would certainly work easily in a comic. (It sort of worked in a film too; Lockout, starring Guy Pearce.)
With the familiar tattoo and shirtless bod rendered wonderfully by Eric Powell, I would perhaps presume that Powell might write this as well (he currently writes “Big Trouble” with Brian Churilla on art). It’s a bit early to tell, though, and I presume we’ll learn more at SDCC. Either way, we’ll be watching.
