BOOM! Studios have announced a new five-part series, “Eve,” by writer Victor LaValle (The Ballad of Black Tom, “Victor LaValle’s Destroyer”) and artist Jo Mi-Gyeong (“Beastlands,” “Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”). The first issue will feature a main cover by Ario Anindito and variants by Yuko Shimizu and InHyuk Lee.
“Eve” will follow the titular girl as she wakes up from her virtual reality, and finds out that humanity has almost been wiped out by a disease that was hidden in the now-melted ice caps. Eve must travel across America with her android teddy bear to save her father and the planet, though it will come at a cost as yet unknown to her.
LaValle stated that the question, “What kind of planet are we leaving to our kids?,” was the inspiration behind the series. He continued that while “many generations have wrestled with it… the question has never been as immediate,” though he “didn’t want to write some grim story about how this joint went to hell,” and set out to write “about how we let the planet fall apart and left it to the younger generations to fix” instead. Eric Harburn, Senior Editor at BOOM! Studios, said that LaValle and Mi-Gyeong “have created a beautiful, haunting world for ‘Eve’ that is no less prophetic for being fictional, in a series that addresses one of the most pressing concerns of humanity today.”
“Eve” #1 is scheduled for release in May. You can see the variant covers here.
