Last week, BOOM! teased a new upcoming series and we promised you we’d let you know more as soon as we did. Today, it was revealed exclusively over at CBR that the teaser (which we’ve reattached above) correlates to a brand new ongoing entitled “Extermination”, starting in June.

Somewhat thematically replacing Mark Waid’s “Irredeemable”, which was about a Superman-esque superhero going berserk, “Extermination” instead finds a world ravaged by an “alien” attack by a species referred to as EDDA, occupying the planet and decimating the superheroic community. Now it’s up to Nox and the Red Reaper, former nemeses, to band together and drive back the invasion force, albeit with two opposing motivations. The book will feature various analogues to Marvel and DC characters, although they will be quite dead when the book begins, and will mainly focus on Nox and the Red Reaper attempting to figure out what happened, how the EDDA won, and how to fix the world to each of their visions, with Spurrier describing the book as a book “about seeing old tropes through very new –broken, scarred and ugly — eyes.”

The artist has not been revealed at this time, but the first issue’s cover will be provided by comics legend John Cassaday and will sell for the low, low price of a single dollar. Can’t beat that deal for an introductory issue, now can you? (Well, unless you’re “Saga”, and you’re $2.99 for 40 pages, but besides that.) For more information, check out CBR’s interview with writer Si Spurrier.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
