Via ComicBook.com, Titan Comics have announced a new 12-issue Blade Runner series, “Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus.” Written by newcomer Kianna Shore with Mellow Brown (“Blade Runner: Origins”), and featuring art by Rodolfo Taibo (“S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Cable”), the comic follows Stix, a replicant soldier, and Mead, an Off-World Marine, who come to Earth searching for the traitor who left their squad to die. Reestablishing themselves in Tokyo, the two form a private detective group, and become involved in a war between the Tyrell Corporation, rival replicant company Chesire, and the yakuza.
The book marks the first Blade Runner comic by Titan in the wake of “Blade Runner 2039,” the newly concluded third and final volume of Mike Johnson, Andrés Guinaldo and co.’s metaseries revolving around the character of Aahna Ashina. Editor David Leach says, “‘Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus’ is a whole new chapter in the Blade Runner saga, and is going to be a worthy addition to the universe, with new characters, new drama and a whole new environment for storytelling. And it’s going to be a stunning-looking book!”
Co-writer Kianna Shore is a Korean-born American writer based in Japan, who graduated from UCLA in 2019. Her previous credits include the webseries Chicken Girls, Stage Fright, and the game Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. She says, “Creating a new comic series for Blade Runner is beyond my wildest dreams! Inspired by media such as Your Name, Arcane, and Crier’s War, I’m thrilled to share my little piece of the Blade Runner universe, bringing Blade Runner all the way to Tokyo, Japan.”
“Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus” #1 will be released on July 31, with a main cover by Christian Ward, and variants by Andy Belanger, Mariano Taibo, Fernando Dagnino, and Paul Pope, as well as a blank sketch cover (cover F).
