Dominic Patten from Deadline reports that the super busy Bradley Cooper will be voicing Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Studio’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film. Cooper is known for his starring roles in The Hangover, Silver Linings Playbook, and the upcoming David O. Russell flick, American Hustle.
What do I think of the choice? Glad you asked. I think if they play Rocket Raccoon as smarmy, Cooper can nail it. At the end of the day, the script is going to have to do most of the work to endear audiences to the character. The one thing I can say is that I’m pretty happy they didn’t go with a gimmicky voice casting.
Time to go back and read Bendis’ “Guardians” issues and imagine Rocket as the douchey boyfriend from “Wedding Crashers.”
