Brian Michael Bendis And The Curious Case Of The Spider-Men

Some time ago, Marvel revealed a teaser entitled Spider-Men, which we knew nothing about but extrapolated upon endlessly. We figured it was something Ultimate, and we guessed it was written by Bendis. Today, Marvel has released a new teaser, once again entitled Spider-Men and this time featuring credits for Bendis, Pichelli and Ponsor — aka, the main team behind “Ultimate Spider-Man.”

So if we’re to remember the past teaser and it’s use of both Miles and Peter’s Spider-Man logos, I’d say it’s fair to say that this might be some kind of Ultimate team-up, wouldn’t you? Could Peter be coming back from the dead, so quickly after Miles made comic history and headlines worldwide? And if he is coming back, why is he?

Of course, the e-mail from Marvel that this image came to us from also included the attached bit of press:

This June – history will be made for the Marvel Universe.

SPIDER-MEN #1
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Art by SARA PICHELLI
Cover by JIM CHEUNG
ON SALE THIS JUNE!

So, is it just me, or does the inclusion of the line “Marvel Universe” say to anyone else that this is perhaps a crossover between the Ultimate and the 616, featuring Peter Parker proper and Miles Morales teaming up for web-slinging adventures in an upcoming “event” series?

Your guess is as good as mine, true believers. We’ll let you know more hopefully soon.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
