As just revealed on Comic Book Resources, writer Brian Michael Bendis is set to depart the X-Men side of the Marvel universe with May’s oversized and star studded issue of “Uncanny X-Men”, renumbered to #600 for the event. Having arrived on the scene with 2012’s “All-New X-Men” #1, his run on the books has been divided, with those who liked it, loving it, and those who didn’t…well, you get the picture. Either way, Bendis is a man known for amassing large libraries of work quickly, and in that span of time he has somehow written almost 90 issues of X-Men comics, and that’s a hell of an achievement for such a short span of time. It’s hard to blame him for moving on.

One thing he does emphasize in the article is this though: this does not mark the end of the X-Men. For those who are more conspiratorial than others, this does not begin Marvel’s complete disillusionment of that side of the line. It just marks a time for a top creator to move on.

It sounds like it will be a hell of a celebration though, with Bendis promising many creators from yesteryear returning for this centennial issue. He couldn’t name names, but I’m pretty excited to find out. Either way, this is the end for him on both “All-New” and “Uncanny”, and regardless of where you stand, his volume and different take is worth celebrating. Where Bendis and the X-Men go from here is uncertain, but we’ll be here to cover it one way or another. He does share in the interview he is staying at Marvel. It will be interesting to see what’s next for him, post Avengers and X-Men. The question is for all of you, is this happy news or sad news? Let us know in the comments.
