As announced at IGN, Brian Wood will be exiting Marvel’s “X-Men” comic this coming August.
Launched by Wood and Olivier Coipel in May of last year, the book was touted as a brand new female-oriented X-Book starring everyone’s favorite X-Women. With some mild nontroversy regarding the name (“But… it stars Women! Why is it called X-Men?!”), the book’s sales have steadily declined — which outside issues may or may not have anything to do with. Wood’s work has been steadily lessening in comics since October of last year, and August will see the writer leave “X-Men” to be replaced by Marc Guggenheim, currently know for his work as executive producer of Arrow.
And, probably worth posting for posterity’s sake:
Also I guess there's X-Men news. FYI, I left the title on my own accord, no drama, no pressure, just moving on.

So that’s that, then.
Starting with #18 and apparently picking up exactly where Wood leaves off with an unknown artist, the book will deal with SWORD, the Shi’ar and X-MEN!!! IN!!! SPAAAACE!!!!! The solicit goes like this:
NEW CREATIVE TEAM! And a new mission for the first all-female team of X-MEN…
• S.W.O.R.D. is Earth’s premiere counterterrorism and intelligence agency when it comes to dealing with extraterrestrial threats.
• But when the ferocious Shi’Ar warrior Deathbird lands on their doorstep at the brink of death, S.W.O.R.D. calls in the X-MEN to investigate!
• But are the X-Men equipped to handle the horrific new threat that’s emerged from the edge of space?32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
Guggenheim is a smart writer, so in the meantime we’ll look forward to picking this title back up again in August. Now if only they’d announced an artist!
