Before Brian Wood was writing two books starring the X-Men, he was once upon a time a graphic designer entering into the world of comics along that path. With his own “Channel Zero” and design work done for Warren Ellis (such as with the website Art Bomb and the Global Frequency covers), Wood made and sold t-shirts via Northern Boy, featuring images based on places he had visited.

He ran Northern Boy for three years before shutting it down, but now he’s starting it back up again as Northern Boy and Girl, featuring images based on history instead of location, and it all launches today with a limited run of his old “Jenny Army” t-shirt (based off of “Chanel Zero” and it’s main character).

As Wood writes in the About section of the site:

Back in 2004 I created NORTHERN BOY, a limited run of t-shirts inspired by northern states I loved.  I also produced a handful of shirts based on the comics and graphic novels I write.  I closed Northern Boy in 2007.

Welcome to the new NORTHERN BOY, an ultra-small production with the goal of re-issuing some of the “classic” old designs mixed with (mostly) new ones.  I’m starting off with a re-issue of the JENNIE ARMY tee, first produced in 2004, now back for another (and final) run.

Take a look at the site for the first “Jennie Army” shirt, as well as the opportunity to buy “the Complete Channel Zero” signed and sketched in by Brian Wood. (And, as a note, if you haven’t gotten “Channel Zero” by now, it is literally the perfect time to do so.) Supplies are limited, though, so act fast if you’re going to act at all.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
