Brian Wood Teases New Digital Comic

Start your new year off right, folks, with a light tease from one of your favorite writers, Brian Wood!

On Wood’s tumblr, Wood put on a rather enigmatic little blog with the following message:

The Future? I do believe that 2012 will see a direct-to-digital comics series written by me and a trusted collaborator.

This, in every possible way, is a good thing. Since Wood first came onto the comic scene with Channel Zero, it was fairly obvious that Wood had no plans to do things like everybody else, and his creator-owned career path has proven that quite succinctly. On top of that, folks may remember Wood discussing digital comics recently after the “mistaken” announcement that Dark Horse would be releasing digital books for less, in which Wood noted that he wanted to find a way to make both mediums work.

I suppose, whatever Wood has planned now with his mystery collaborator, will be the answer to that question.

Until then, I think it is fair play to start guessing who the mysterious “trusted” collaborator is. Looking at his body of work and who he seems to like working with, we have a few guesses already. Becky Cloonan, artist of the Channel Zero prequel and Demo? No, she’s drawing Conan with Wood for Dark Horse. Ryan Kelly? He’s over at Vertigo drawing Saucer Country. Riccardo Burchielli? He’s drawing Wood’s ongoing DMZ at Vertigo wait a minute — that just ended. Hmm. Guesses welcome.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
