Bryan Hitch Reveals More on His New Book, “Real Heroes”

Originally described by Hitch as “the cast of Avengers does Galaxy Quest“, which is the best description ever, the book description in the press release is very much that — actors who have to pretend to actually be superheroes fighting real threats. And you know the thing about Galaxy Quest is that it’s actually the best Star Trek film ever made, right? So this rather bodes well for Real Heroes being the best Avengers film since, well, The Avengers. I’m interested.

So it seems like a rather logical follow-up to “America’s Got Powers,” albeit this time Hitch is going at it alone. And, if I’m remembering correctly, this is the first comic by Hitch that we’ll see completely written/illustrated on his own, so it’ll be interesting to see how Hitch fares in the comics arena with this outing.

“Real Heroes” goes on sale March 26th as a six-issue mini. For the full press release from Image, please see below.

Image Comics Press Release

The celebrity stars of the blockbuster The Olympians films are about to take “method” to a whole new level. In Bryan Hitch’s all-new six-issue miniseries REAL HEROES, a group of actors who are used to playing superheroes on film are forced to don their capes and cowls in real life when a nefarious foe endangers their city.

REAL HEROES #1 is Hitch’s first foray into writing and drawing his own work, and hits the ground running with an explosion and a brutally-orchestrated fight to the death.

Hitch explained that there is more to REAL HEROES than just another superhero series. The characters are average celebrities faced with an enemy meant for their fictional counterparts. “The real stars of this story are the very fallible, very real actors. It’s those characters that shape the story when they find themselves doing it for real,” said Hitch. “Robert Downey Jr. isn’t really Tony Stark, Hemsworth isn’t Thor, and Cavill isn’t Superman. Imagine if they got to be? Very different story.”

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
