Appearing on Comic Vine and nowhere else (though I’m not sure if it’s an exclusive due to the lack of watermark, so who knows?) the above image for the upcoming Season 10 comic of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” has arrived ahead of this Friday’s Whedonversity panel at Dark Horse.
Looking at the image, I think what is safe to assume about the series is that things will be pulled back into one book. That’s a big assumption, mind you, as Season 9 had four different books, but the SEASON 10 over all the characters would seemingly — to me, anyway — indicate that all of these characters are now being folded under one house.
As such, it looks like the book will largely deal with the fallout of magic returning and what Buffy did in the finale to Season 9 rather than Angel’s adventures in London. Perhaps Angel is simply going to be stationed in London as part of a larger operation, as he still seems segregated from the group — but Faith and Kid Giles (is there a good name for what he is now?) are with Buffy on the other side of the wall. Dawn is notably absent, and is perhaps the only major character who doesn’t appear outside of Angel’s crew, such as Illyria who had a large role in the “Buffy” finale.
It’s all guessing, mind you. There may be individual books for every character. Who knows! But my guess is that we’re getting one “Buffy Season 10” book, and that Angel is on his own. This could also be two covers split in the middle for “Buffy Season 10” and “Angel and Faith Season 2” (or whatever numbering that is on — 7? 8? I’m not honestly sure). Both seem likely, as there is a nice split there.
The biggest thing I take from it, though, is that it’s a Rebekah Isaacs image. Why is this noteworthy? Well, Georges Jeanty was announced as the artist of “Serenity,” and unless he’s pulling double duty on the books, is it possible that Rebekah Isaacs is taking over the main series? And if so, can I get a major “Hell yes!” because Rebekah Isaacs is awesome?
We’ll find out Friday. Here’s the Whedonversity panel information — I’ll be there:
