After promising that Alex Ross would be bringing a friend to the upcoming Kirby: Genesis, Dynamite Entertainment has announced that Kurt Busiek will be co-plotting the series with Ross. CBR also reports that, along with Jack Kirby’s creator owned work, the series will be using characters that the late King of Comics designed and sketched but never put into a story. On the upcoming project, Ross had this to say:

This ‘Kirby world’ that we’ll develop will be something fresh for the two of us to butt heads about together and really try and build something new and fresh. Hopefully, the Kirby world will represent so much of the basic creativity that you could find of any of the published material you’re familiar with. When you see the various characters that the [Kirby] family owns, they do feel familiar to all the various things that were covered in the many creations of Kirby — everything from Galactus to Fighting American or whatever. You get a sense of all of those things embroiled in this world in all the properties we have access to.

And, hopefully, it becomes, with Kurt’s aid, a series that’s worth creating — a project worth getting into action on that says something about the nature of comic books and that particular form of creativity.

Additionally, it seems like Ross will not be doing all of the interior work. Instead, we can probably expect something similar to Ross and Busiek’s collaboration on Astro City, with Ross doing covers and designs, alongside his duties as co-plotter. We did, however, get a sneak peek at what is to come with another preview image painted by Ross.
