Today at Letters of Note, the letter of the day is one sent from former Uncanny X-Men artist John Byrne to former Uncanny writer Chris Claremont. The subject? One Kitty Pryde, a character whom Byrne had created.

This illustrated letter features an early illustration of Kitty, along with basic information, codename ideas, power suggestions, as well as Byrne’s idea for what role she should play. Namely, the role of leader of a second, younger team of mutants.

This letter is fantastic, and it’s incredibly cool to see the genesis of such a beloved character from one of the greatest comic book minds of all-time. Plus, holy crap does John Byrne have awesome handwriting. As a fan of that, I couldn’t possibly be more impressed.
