Yesterday, Diamond hosted their annual Retailers Summit. An all day event, the summit hosts workshops based around retail topics as well as offers a chance for retailers to connect with publishers in a more intimate fashion.
Of course, it’s also a place for companies to tease retailers of what is coming in the year. To that end, here are some convenient bullet points covering some of the announcements:
- Dynamite plans to do more with Kevin Smith in addition to “the Green Hornet” and “Bionic Man,” although they have not revealed what the project is.
- In lieu of the “Drusilla” book being put on hold, Dark Horse will be releasing a “Willow” series by Jeff Parker and Brian Ching (David Mack’s cover pictured, as seen on Entertainment Weekly’s website) as well as a “Spike” series by Victor Gischler and Paul Lee in August. The goal is to publish a new book in the Buffyverse every week to draw Buffy fans in weekly.
- Tim Seeley has a new book coming from Dark Horse, pitched as “Buffy and Angel crossed with Natural Born Killers. There is a more in-depth interview about it at Comic Book Resources.
- Marvel will be releasing a crossover event this summer between the three Ultimate books that returns Captain America to the Ultimate Universe (for those not reading Ultimate comics, after Peter Parker died, he “retired” and went to live alone in the wilderness — like a Nomad). Marvel teased that it would be getting national attention akin to the death of Johnny Storm due to a pivotal character choice.
- IDW will be releasing several new licensed comics, including a new Crow series in July by the screenwriter from the original Crow film, a KISS series by Chris Ryall, Tom Waltz, Jamal Igle and Casey Maloney and the Danger Girl/GI Joe crossover we discussed earlier.
- IDW will also be releasing something new from Stephen King and Joe Hill, but no word on what, as well as more from Hill post-“Locke and Key” finale.
- DC Comics will finally be releasing Sean Murphy’s “Punk Rock Jesus” through Vertigo, on sale in July, which couldn’t get us more excited if it tried. The book stars a former child star who is actually a clone of Jesus Christ created for a reality show trying to make his own in the world. Newsarama has more about the six-issue series.
