As we noted, there was a bunch of not-so-finished solicits in this month’s Marvel solicitations. Today at C2E2, the mystery of the 100th Anniversary Specials were revealed.
The formerly classified specials are in fact fake anniversary issues for Marvel, as everything flashes forward to the year 2061 (100 years after Marvel began in 1961). Featuring a bevy of impressive indie creators, the books are meant to show what is going on the far-out future in which an evil AI program has taken over the world’s heroes and it’s up to Ba–
Wait, wait. Nope. Got my apocalyptic future sagas mixed up! Oops! This one is just taking place in 2061, and stuff is all different.
The creative teams, brief synopses and covers are as follows:

“Avengers” from James Stokoe, in which no description was given but where probably a bunch of awesome stuff happens all awesome-like.

“Spider-Man” from Sean Ryan and In-Hyuk Lee, where the Kingpin gets the venom symbiote.

“Fantastic Four” by Jen Van Meter and Joanna Estep that apparently doesn’t star the Fantastic Four according to Nick Lowe.

“X-Men” by Robin Furth and Jason Masters about the wedding of Cyclops and Emma Frost now that Cyclops is President of the United States (honestly, that’s the description).

and “Guardians of the Galaxy” by Andy Lanning, Ron Marz and Gustao Duarte, featuring a new Galactus and the return of original Guardians members.
You may notice, if you’ve been paying attention, that these creative teams (as reported at CBR) are in fact different than what Marvel solicited. Whether this is a reporting mix-up or a solicitation mix-up, I don’t really know; we’ll certainly update if so.
However, the important thing to note is that James Stokoe is writing and illustrating an issue of the Avengers that takes place in the future, and that is dope boy fresh in every way ever stated.
