John Layman told Multiversity about this back in August of last year, Layman teased us that a Poyo one-shot was on the way. He didn’t really say much more other than it would coincide with when “Chew” published its 27th issue in continuity (the issue came out in May of last year as a tease of what was to come) and that it would star Poyo.
Well, now we know a bit more. For those who read issue #25, you know Poyo returned in a fairly big way (how else could he return, really?) and that the world should get ready for some mother-cluckin’ good comics. Now that time has come: on July 11th, Image will be releasing “Secret Agent Poyo #1” by Layman and Guillory, a 36 page one-shot all about — well, you get it at this point, right?
The solicit information (which we also posted a bit earlier today) gives an amusing look at the thought process behind this issue in what can only be described as both the least and most informative solicit of the month:
Hey retailers/readers/speculators! Still kicking yourself for not ordering and/or passing by CHEW #1, now that you see what it’s going for on eBay? Here’s your chance to get sweet, sweet, revenge, with an all-new CHEW #1, a one-shot spinning off CHEW‘s most popular supporting character, and comics’ most beloved homicidal cybernetic kung-fu rooster. Concentrated mayhem. Feathers, rage and hate! Plus: an all-star pin-up gallery from some of the most staggeringly talented artists in the industry!
Make sure to pre-order two copies of the issue, one to bag and board and one to hock on eBay, and look for a comic that will officially make Chicken Run look like an even more tame version of Chicken Run in July.
