This year’s Cannes Film Festival is playing host to some very different comic book movies, and trailers for two of them — director Jacques Audiard’s Paris, 13th District (Les Olympiades), and Ari Folman’s Where is Anne Frank — have been released online. First up, is the NSFW trailer for Paris, 13th District, which you can watch with the official English subtitles at Deadline:

Based on three stories by American cartoonist Adrian Tomine (‘Amber Sweet,’ ‘Killing and Dying’ and ‘Hawaiian Getaway’), Paris, 13th District follows Emilie, Camille, Nora and Amber, four young adults who are friends, and sometimes lovers. Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) stars as Nora, along with Jehnny Beth as Amber, Makita Samba as Camille, and Lucie Zhang as Emilie. The film premieres in competition at the festival tomorrow, and has been picked up for a US release by IFC Films.

Where is Anne Frank is ostensibly the film version of Folman (Waltz with Bashir) and David Polonsky’s 2017 graphic novel of the diary, but it departs significantly from its source material with a storyline where Kitty — Anne Frank’s imaginary friend, whom she addressed her diary to — comes to life in present day Amsterdam, and aids a young refugee.

The film, which was made in cooperation with the Anne Frank Fonds Basel, premiered out of competition at the festival last week, to strong reviews. It will be released in France on November 24, with details on its arrival in the Anglosphere still unknown at the time of writing (despite the film being in English, with a British voice cast that includes Emily Carey as Anne, Ruby Stokes as Kitty, and Michael Maloney as Otto Frank.)

Stay tuned for final details on both films’ releases, and Paris, 13th District potentially winning Audiard his second Palme d’Or.
